Anopheles pallidus Theobald, 1901

This mosquito is found in southern Asia from India to Laos. It bites humans and can be collected indoors, however it has not yet been implicated as a malaria vector. A. pallidus also feeds on domestic animals like cattle (e.g. see Bashar et al., 2012). It breeds mainly in stagnant water like ponds, pools, canals and water tanks, but also in rice fields.

A. pallidus is similar to Anopheles annularis and both can occur in the same area. A. pallidus can be distinguished by the lack of a black section on forewing vein CuA at the fork to vein mcu, as well as by the coloration of the hind tarsus (see illustration on right).
