Anopheles messeae Falleroni, 1926
This mosquito is found in temperate and subtropical regions of Europe and Asia and is a vector of malaria in Central Siberia. It is also considered to be a potential malaria vector in Europe (malaria is no longer present in Europe). A. messeae bites humans and also feeds on domestic animals or other mammals. It breeds in stagnant or slow flowing fresh water, including pools, lakes, marshes and ditches. The species belongs to the Anopheles maculipennis group.
