Anopheles melas Theobald, 1903
This mosquito is found mainly in coastal areas of western Africa, where it breeds in brackish or even saline water, less often in fresh water. It is a malaria vector and bites humans as well as domestic animals during the night. However, usually it is less important for malaria transmission compared to Anopheles arabiensis or A. gambiae which typically occur in the same areas.
