Anopheles hinesorum Schmidt, Foley, Hartel, Williams & Bryan, 2001
This mosquito is a vector of human malaria. It is found in Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and north-eastern Australia. It feeds on humans, domestic animals and other mammals. A. hinesorum is closely related to Anopheles farauti and had been previously referred to as A. farauti species 2. In comparison to A. farauti s.s., A. hinesorum breeds in fresh water and can be found inland.
