Anopheles fluviatilis James, 1902
This mosquito is found in south-western Asia, from Iran to Myanmar. It bites humans and livestock during the night and is an important malaria vector in some areas like India. A. fluviatilis breeds mainly in slow moving waters like irrigation channels.
Taxonomically, A. fluviatilis is related to Anopheles funestus. Several closely related, cryptic species exists which have been provisionally named species S, T and U, with species S being the most anthropophilic as well as the most efficient malaria vector.
