Anopheles barbumbrosus Strickland & Chowdhury, 1927

This mosquito is widely distributed in southern Asia from southern China, the Philipines and Indonesia in the east to parts of India in the west. An. barbumbrosus is reported to be associated with livestock and also to bite humans (e.g. see Gunathilaka et al., 2016). It is regarded as a secondary malaria vector. In addition, it feeds on birds and can carry avian malaria (Chen et al., 2015). It breeds in rice fields, pools along river banks and slowly running streams. Morphologically, it is similar to Anopheles barbirostris and both species can be confused.
