Anacridium Uvarov, 1923 - (tree locusts)

This genus of locusts is found in Africa, many parts of Europe, the Near East and some surrounding regions. However, the genus is missing from Madagascar. It includes 13 species (Orthoptera Species File), with 2 of them regarded as pests. Like in other locusts, solitary and gregarious forms have been described. However, these forms differ only in the colouration of the hoppers.

Anacridium species are typically large species living mainly in trees. The length of the body (without the wings) ranges from 50 to 70 mm in females, and from around 40-60 mm in males. The genus is characterized by the colour pattern on the hind wings and the structure of the male genital appendages.
