Anacridium melanorhodon (F. Walker, 1870) - (Sahelian tree locust)

This tree locust is found in different parts of Africa and the Near East, where it lives in trees of savannahs and wooded steppes. It can form swarms which travel short distances and attacks various crops. Severe damage is often caused on gum arabic trees (Acacia senegal).

A. melanorhodon is a large locust with the body length (without wings) typically ranging from 55-70 mm in females and from 55-60 mm in males. Several subspecies have bee described.
