Anacridium aegyptium (Linnaeus, 1764) - (Egyptian locust)
This species of tree locust has mainly a Mediterranean distribution, but its distribution extends eastwards to Afghanistan and other parts of western Asia. It has been also reported from outside these regions. Like other Anacridium species, it usually lives on trees. But it can form swarms which travel short distances, and invade and damage crops.
The adult has a body length (without wings) typically ranging from 50-70 mm in females and 40-50 mm in males. Morphological differences have been described from different populations like the North African, Asian and European populations.
