Amitus hesperidum (parasitoid) Silvestri - (citrus blackfly parasitoid)

This tiny wasp (< 1 mm long) is an important parasitoid of blackflies of the genus Aleurocanthus and several whitefly genera. It is native to southern Asia and has been released in various countries of other regions as part of classical biological control programs (Bartlett et al., 1978).

The female lays one or several eggs into an early stage of the blackfly/whitefly host. After 50-60 days the adult wasps emerge from the pupal stage of the host.
