Alphabaculovirus angemmatalis (entomopathogen)
Assigned virus:
• Anticarsia gemmatalis multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (AgMNPV)
AgMNPV is a nuclear polyhedrosis virus of the velvetbean caterpillar (Anticarsia gemmatalis), an important pest of soybeans in the Americas. It is commercially produced and was extensively used in the 1990s and 2000s in Brazil, in neighbouring countries and in other parts of Latin America like Mexico and Colombia. The use of this virus has subsequently declined due to the introduction of transgenic soybean cultivars (Del-Angel et al., 2018). In addition, soybean farmer are often concerned about the slow action of the virus and it may take up to 2 weeks to kill the host.
