Aegilops triuncialis (weed) L. - (barbed goatgrass)
The grass is an invasive annual grass which is native to Europe and Asia and was introduced into western North America around 1900. It grows mainly in grasslands, like areas for sheep grazing, but is not eaten by livestock when it is mature. It grows about 25-30 cm tall and forms monotypic stands with densities of more than 500 tillers per m2. Seeds will remain dormant for up to 5 years. It is closely related to wheat and will hybridize with wheat.
