Acidovorax avenae (Manns 1909) Willems et al. 1992

This bacterium infects cereals, grasses and other crops. Mainly young leaves are affected and develop leaf stripes. On maize, the symptoms start with small, pale-green lesions. These expand along the veins, resulting in stripes that dry up, causing tearing of the leaves. On sugarcane, the bacterium causes the red stripe disease. Since 2008, strains causing bacterial stripe on rice have been classified as Acidovorax oryzae.
