Neocosmospora petroliphila (Q.T. Chen & X.H. Fu) Sand.-Den. & Crous 2018

This fungus is widely distributed. It was originally described as Fusarium solani var. petroliphilum from deteriorated petroleum in China. However, it has been more frequently reported to be a plant pathogen or a human pathogen, causing mycotic keratitis. As a plant pathogen, it causes fruit rot on cucurbits. In Spain, it has caused 10 to 20% postharvest losses on Cucurbita moschata (González et al., 2018).

N. petroliphila is part of the Fusarium solani species complex and has been referred to as Fusarium solani f.sp. cucurbitae race 2, before 2018. It is closely related to Neocosmospora cucurbitae (previously race 1) which is a more common pathogen of cucurbits, causing mainly root and crown rot.

Synonyms:
Fusarium petroliphilum
Fusarium solani f.sp. cucurbitae race 2
