Coelophora inaequalis (predator) (Fabricius, 1775) - (variable ladybird)
This ladybird beetle is native to south-eastern Asia and the Australia/Pacific region. It has been introduced into Hawaii and North America as part of biological control programs against invasive aphid pests like the sugarcane aphid, Melanaphis sacchari (Bartlett et al., 1978). It also feeds on other small arthropods like psyllids, mealybugs or spider mites.
The adult beetles are around 5 mm long, with an orange, yellowish or black background colour on the elytra and a variable pattern of black or red marks.
