Ips duplicatus (Sahlberg, 1836) - (double-spined spruce engraver)

This species of bark beetles is found in north-eastern Europe and in northern Asia. It attacks mainly spruce trees but can be also found on some other conifers. During non-outbreak conditions, only the upper parts of the crown of 40-70 year old stressed trees are attacked. There may be 1 to 3 generations per year. The beetle is often associated with Ips typographus and damage by I. duplicatus is therefore not always recognized.
