This genus of grasses contains around 10 species which are found in tropical and subtropical regions. Cynodon dactylon or its hybrid Cynodon dactylon × C. transvaalensis is often grown as turf, but is also a weed in other types of turf and in many crops like soybean, sugarcane or cotton.
