Xyleborus volvulus (Fabricius, 1775)

This ambrosia beetle is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions, particularly in the southern hemisphere. It breeds in the trunks of various woody plants, including fruit trees like avocado and mango. Heavy infestations cause wilting of the leaves. In addition, it is regarded as a potential vector of the laurel wilt disease caused by Raffaelea lauricola (Carrillo et al., 2014). However, in North America, the primary nutritional symbiotic fungus of X. volvulus appears to be Raffaelea arxii (Cruz et al., 2019).
