Aculus Keifer, 1959
This genus contains around 250 species of gall mites. It is widely distributed and includes several important pest species like Aculus schlechtendali or Aculus fockeui.
The genus is closely related to to the genus Aculops. However, it differs by a broad and rounded frontal lobe on the prodorsal shield. Some species have 2-4 small spines projecting from under the front edge of the shield. In Aculops this lob is small and pointed. Aculus also has prominent scapular setae on or near the rear margin.
