Peromyscus Gloger, 1841 - (deer mice)
This genus of rodents contains around 40 species which are native to North and Central America. The genus is related to and resembles the genus Mus with the common house mouse. Some species of Peromyscus are well-known reservoirs of human diseases as well as crop and forest pests. One of these is the white-footed mouse, Peromyscus leucopus. Compared to species of Mus, those of Peromyscus have larger eyes and often darker fur on the back than at the belly.
