Albifimbria verrucaria (Alb. & Schwein.) L. Lombard & Crous 2016

The fungus is widely distributed and infects the seeds of various crops. It also causes other diseases like leaf spots on crops and weeds. For weed diseases see Albifimbria verrucaria (weed pathogen). It has been further reported as an antagonist to plant diseases, see Albifimbria verrucaria (antagonist). It can degrade cellulose and is also a mould on various materials, including paper and textiles.

A. verrucaria is the type species of the genus Albifimbria which has been separated from the genus Myrothecium based on molecular studies as well as the formation of verrucose setae surrounding the sporodochia and the conidia sometimes bearing a funnel-shaped mucoid appendage.

Synonyms:
Gliocladium fimbriatum
Myrothecium verrucaria
