Viscum album (weed) L. - (European mistletoe)
This mistletoe grows on a number of different trees, including fruit trees, conifers and broad-leaved forest trees. Growth losses on infested pine trees have been estimated at as much as 50% (Bilgili et al., 2018).
The seeds germinate in the spring and the mistletoe grows over a period of around 10 years. The first flowers and fruits are produced after a period of 5 years. Mature plants have a diameter of 50 cm or more and the berries a diameter of around 5-10 mm. It is dispersed by birds that eat the fruits during the winter and attach the seeds to branches when they clean their beak.
