Vicia villosa (weed) Roth - (hairy vetch)

This species of vetch is native to Europe and western Asia, but has been introduced into other regions. It is sometimes grown as a forage crop or as a cover crop to add nitrogen to the soil. However, it can be weedy, affecting cereals and other crops.

V. villosa is a climbing plant with a hairy stem and hairy leaves. The flowers are purple or violet, arranged in a long inflorescence. The pods can contain up to 10 seeds.
