Verticillium mycoviruses (antagonists)

Fungi of the genus Verticillium cause import wilt diseases on a variety of crops. For example, Verticillium dahliae causes Verticillium wilt of potatoes, cotton and olives, among many other crops. Several mycoviruses infecting Verticillium species have been described like the double stranded RNA virus 'Verticillium dahliae chrysovirus 1' (Alphachrysovirus verticillii) from the family Chrysoviridae and viruses from the family Partitiviridae (e.g. see Cañizares et al., 2015). A single stranded RNA virus resembling members of the family Tombusviridae has been also reported to infect V. dahliae (Cañizares et al., 2018).
