Uranotaenia sapphirina (Osten Sacken, 1868)
This very small mosquito is found in eastern parts of North America and in parts of Central America. It is characterised by patches of iridescent blue scales. It feeds rarely on mammals (Molaei, 2008), and has been suspected to feed mainly on earth worms.
