Trigonotylus caelestialium Kirkaldy - (rice leaf bug)

This plant bug is wide-spread and feeds mainly on grasses. In Asia, it breeds on forage crops (e.g. Lolium, Digitaria or Hordeum) and attacks neighbouring rice field where it feeds on the developing rice grains. These grains later show kernel spotting, known as "pecky rice", which reduces their quality. However, "pecky rice" can be also caused by other species like Stenotus rubrovittatus. The bug has a multivoltine life cycle. It has been also recorded from Europe and North America but has not been reported there to damage crops.
