Trichosirocalus horridus (weed bioagent) (Panzer)

The weevil attacks the crown and roots of several weedy thistle species resulting in reduced growth and reduced seed production. It has been released into several countries as part of classical biological control programs. For example, the releases have been successful against the nodding or musk thistle (Carduus nutans). It is commercially available.
