Trichodorus obtusus Cobb, 1913 - (stubby roots of grasses)
This species of stubby root nematode has been reported as a parasite of various types of grasses in North America. Infested turf has irregular chlorotic or dead patches, with affected plants showing spotted yellowing, necrosis and stubby roots (e.g. see Shaver et al., 2013). St. Augustinegrass (Stenotaphrum secundatum) experimentally infested by T. obtusus can have a reduction of almost one half in their root length compared to uninfested plants (Crow & Welch, 2004).
