Tribulus terrestris (weed) L. - (puncturevine)
This weed is widely distributed around the world and thrives mainly in drier areas. It is often an invasive plant that suppresses native vegetation, but can also affect a variety of crops. Puncturevine can form dense patches which cover the ground. In addition, the hard, prickly fruits (burs) can cause injuries to grazing animals.
The stems of T. terrestris grow up to a length of around 1 m, mainly along the ground, usually forming flat patches. The flowers are yellow and the fruits are woody with 2 to 4 sharp spines.
