This fungus is widely distributed and infects various crops. For example it can be important on date palm in the Near East, causing the lethal black scorch disease. In this disease, the fungus enters the palm during mechanical injuries or cracks in the roots caused by changes of the soil moisture. The symptoms include black scorched leaves, trunk rot, bud rot, or inflorescence blight (Suleman et al., 2001)
