Thanasimus dubius (predator) (Fabricius)
The beetle is an important generalist predator of bark beetles in North America. It uses the bark beetle aggregation pheromone and volatiles released by attacked trees to locate its prey. The adults feed on the aggregating bark beetles and lay their eggs into the attacked trees. The larvae then feed on the bark beetle larvae.
