Sweet potato virus G (SPVG)

This virus was originally described from China, but is now known to be widely distributed in sweet potatoes growing areas around the world (e.g. Rännäli et al., 2008). Infected plants rarely display symptoms (like light chlorosis, downward leaf curling or vein clearing) and the virus is normally not regarded as a serious health risk to the plant, with infections having little, if any impact on yield (Clark & Hoy, 2006). However, mixed infections with other potyviruses such as Sweet potato feathery mottle virus can result in significant yield losses and outbreaks.
