Sphenophorus parvulus Gyllenhal - (bluegrass billbug)
The weevil is a pest of maize and Poa pratensis in North America. It also feeds on other cereals and grasses. The adult make holes in the leaves and lays eggs into the stem close to the ground, where the hatching larvae feed for 1-2 months. The damage can kill patches of grass.
There is one generation per year and it overwinters in the adult stage. The adult is 6-8 mm long, black but coated with grey and has dense punctures on the pronotum.
