Spathius galinae (parasitoid) Belokobylskij & Strazanac 2012
This wasp parasitises larvae of the invasive emerald ash borer, Agrilus planipennis, and is native to north-eastern Asia. Starting 2016, it was released in north-eastern North America. The released population originated from far-eastern Russia. By 2018, it became evident that the introduction was successful and that S. galinae had become established (Duan et al., 2019).
S. galinae is one of several parasitoids released in North America against the emerald ash borer. Compared to Spathius agrili from China, it has a longer ovipositor, allowing it to attack larvae in larger trees. It may be also better adapted to the climate of north-eastern North America.
