Sitona Germar, 1817 - (pea and bean weevils)

The genus is widely distributed and contains more than 100 species of weevils which infest legumes like peas, clover or alfalfa. The adults feed on the leaves while the larvae attack the root nodules. The adults are characterized by a broad and short rostrum divided by a groove in the middle. The body is covered with scales.
