Sisymbrium irio (weed) L. - (London rocket)

This weed is widely distributed in temperate and subtropical regions, and can be found in field crops, orchards, vineyards, gardens, waste lands and road sites. It interferes with crops, especially in areas where it has been apparently introduced like North America. See the map in Plants of the World for the native and introduced areas. S irio is edible and can reach a height of more than 1 m.

Apart from affecting the crops directly, it has been shown to harbour various plant viruses like Turnip mosaic virus (e.g. Farzadfar et al., 2009), and to serve as winter host for insect pests like the beet leafhopper (Ray et al., 2006).
