Sicyos angulatus (weed) L. - (burcucumber)
This annual vine is native to eastern parts of North America, but invasive in various other regions, including Europe and temperate parts of eastern Asia. It grows mainly in open spaces, along river banks, fences and hedges, and also affects crops like maize or soybeans. In invaded areas, it suppresses and replaces native vegetation.
While only one seed is produced per flower/fruit, the plants have a high production of flowers which are arranged in cluster. The ripe fruits disperse by sticking to the fur of animals with their bristles, and the seeds survive in the soil for several years.
