Serratia marcescens (antagonist) Bizio 1823
Certain strains are biocontrol agents against various bacterial, fungal and viral diseases of crops. They can cause induced systemic resistance or effect the plant pathogen directly, e.g. by degrading the cell wall of pathogenic fungi.
The bacterium is characterized by its red colour. See also Serratia marcescens (entomopathogenic strains) and Serratia marcescens (plant pathogenic strains).
