Serratia marcescens (entomopathogen) Bizio 1823

The entomopathogenic strains are usually red pigmented and cause common and serious diseases in insect rearings. However, the bacterium is not pathogenic in low dosages and is rarely observed as a pathogen of insects in the field.

The bacterium is characterized by its red colour. See also Serratia marcescens (strains antagonistic to plant diseases) and Serratia marcescens (plant pathogenic strains).
