Schizotetranychus Trägårdh, 1915
This genus of spider mites is widely distributed and includes more than 100 species. Schizotetranychus schizopus feeds on various types of trees in temperate regions, others feed on grasses. A number of bamboo feeding species have been transferred to the genus Stigmaeopsis.
The genus is characterised by the position of the setae and the empodium (the pad-like structure at the end of the tarsi) being transformed into a bifurcate, claw-like structure.
