Saissetia miranda (Cockerell & Parrott, 1899) - (Mexican black scale)
This is a polyphagous soft scale, found in the Americas and parts of Asia and the Pacific. Infestations can lead to reduced growth and the formation of sooty mould. Mature scales become dark, in contrast to the similar Saissetia coffeae which remains light brown. Ridges on the dorsum are arranged in a pattern resembling the letter 'H'.
