Puccinia phragmitis (Schumach.) Körn. 1876
This fungus causes a rust disease on reeds of the genus Phragmites. On this host, elongated, yellow uredinia and later brown-black telia are formed. The urediniospores are egg-shaped with a size of around 25-30 x 20 µm, as well as an echinulate surface. Varieties with shorter urediniospores have been also described. The teliospores are 2-celled with a length of about 50 µm and a long pedicel.
In spring, aecia develop on alternate host plants of the genus Rumex. Other alternate hosts have been also reported.
