Psyttalia humilis (parasitoid) (Silvestri, 1914)
This wasp is a parasitoid of fruit flies and is native to sub-Saharan Africa. It was originally described from pears infested by Ceratitis capitata in South Africa. Apart from C. capitata it can also parasitize the olive fruit fly (Bactrocera oleae). In 2006, it was introduced into California (U.S.) as part of a classic biological control program against the olive fruit fly (Yokoyama et al., 2011). P. humilis is very similar to Psyttalia concolor from the Mediterranean region.
