Psorophora ferox (von Humboldt) - (white-footed woods mosquito)

The distribution of this mosquito included tropical and warmer regions of North and South America. It is common in wood-land areas which become flooded periodically. It frequently attacks humans, inflicting painful bites. Although several viruses have been found in the adults it is not known to transmit human diseases. The adults can be recognized by the white tarsi on the hind legs.
