Pseudomonas fuscovaginae (ex Tanii et al.) Miyajima et al. - (sheath brown rot of rice)

The bacterium causes brown sheath rot of rice as well as poor spike emergence, grain sterility and grain discoloration. The leaf symptoms have been described as dark water-soaked spots on the adaxial side of the flag leaf sheath. The bacterium is a Gram-negative fluorescent pseudomonad and can also infect other cereals. It is seed-borne, spreads on rice seeds and can survive as an epiphyte on the seed surface.
