Pinnaspis buxi (Bouché, 1851) - (bamboo mussel-scale, boxwood scale)
This species of armoured scale insects is wide-spread and polyphagous. It is mainly found in tropical and subtropical regions, but can also occur in greenhouses in temperate regions. The host plants include boxwood, bamboo, banana, coconut palm, and various ornamentals. The scale cover is small, 1 to 1.5 mm long.
In the 1930s, serious outbreaks have been reported from coconut in the Seychelles and attempts were made to introduced biological control agents there and in other regions. The introduction of the ladybug Telsimia nitida into Hawaii has effectively controlled P. buxi (Bartlett et al., 1978).
