Pieris melete Ménétriés, 1857
This butterfly is a serious pest of cruciferous crops in eastern Asia, for example of Brassica species. It has a multivoltine life cycle and can undergo both summer and winter diapause in the pupal stage. Diapause is influenced by environmental factors like temperature and/or daylight conditions. In Asia, P. melete has been used as an experimental model insect to study the diapause in insects, e.g. see Xiao et al. (2012).
