Candidatus Phytoplasma japonicum Sawayanagi et al. (1999) - (Japanese hydrangea phyllody phytoplasma)

This phytoplasma is associated with Japanese Hydrangea phyllody, a disease of hortensia plants (Hydrangea spp.) in Japan. The symptoms include phyllody and proliferation of the flowers as well as stunting and dieback (Sawayanagi et al., 1999). It has been assigned to subgroup D of the 16SrXII phytoplasma group.
