Candidatus Phytoplasma castaneae Jung et al., 2002 - (Japanese chestnut witches'-broom phytoplasma)

This phytoplasma infects Japanese chestnut trees (Castanea crenata) and has been described from Korea (Jung et al., 2002). The symptoms include small, yellowing leaves on infected trees and has been associated with severe losses in some areas of Korea. A disease with similar symptoms has been described from Japan, but has caused less severe infections. The reference sequence of the type strain is available under GeneBank accession no. AB054986.
