Phytophthora siskiyouensis Reeser & E.M. Hansen 2008

This oomycete has been first described from soil and water samples in north-western North America, after baiting it with rhododendron and tanoak leaves (Reeser et al., 2007). It was also reported to cause stem cankers on tanoak trees (Lithocarpus densiflorus) in the same area (Reeser et al., 2008).

Subsequently, P. siskiyouensis was found causing collar rot lesions on alder (Alnus) trees in several locations in North America, Australia and Europe. The lesions are similar to those caused by Phytophthora uniformis. P. siskiyouensis is homothallic, mostly with reniform sporangia.
